This Was Not In The Renovation Plan

THIS WASN’T IN THE RENOVATION PLAN…

One thing property renovation teaches you very quickly is that you don’t always know what you’re dealing with until you start opening things up.

And this was a perfect example.

Once the floor was opened, it became clear that parts of the existing timber structure needed far more attention than originally expected.

What looked like a straightforward section of the renovation suddenly became a much bigger job.

The floor had to be opened right up so I could properly assess the joists, the surrounding support and exactly what needed to be repaired before anything could be put back together.

It’s not the glamorous side of renovation.

There’s no shiny new kitchen.

No freshly painted room.

Just a very large hole in the floor… and another problem that needed solving.

But this is exactly why I always say that renovation isn’t just about what you can see.

Some of the most important work happens underneath the floors, behind the walls and in the parts of the property that eventually disappear completely.

And when you uncover a problem like this, covering it back up and hoping for the best simply isn’t an option.
